AI in Malta: what runs in production
People ask what AI in Malta actually does for a business. Here is what I run in production, and what I keep away from it.
My day role is AI Orchestrator and Head of Technology & Innovation at Simon Mamo Real Estate. Outside it I build and run the products on my work page. Most of what follows runs every day, for real customers, on servers in the European Union.
What the AI does every day
- Answers on WhatsApp. An assistant replies to enquiries, qualifies the lead and books a time. Ziggy, the product version, does the same for small businesses as an AI receptionist.
- Runs compliance checks. Real estate agents in Malta carry anti-money-laundering duties. NexusShield handles client due diligence, risk scoring, PEP checks and the records an agency has to keep.
- Writes and reviews code. AI coding agents build and change the sites and tools, and every change has to pass checks before it ships.
- Watches the servers. Monitoring flags a failing service and restarts what is safe to restart. Anything that touches money or customer data waits for a person.
What stays with a person
Payments, credential changes, deleting data and anything sent to a client in my name. An agent can prepare those steps. A human approves them. Secrets live in an encrypted vault, never in code, so an agent that reads the code never sees a key.
Why it works in Malta
Malta is small, English-speaking and inside the EU. A local business can talk to its customers on WhatsApp in two or three languages, and the GDPR applies to every message. That mix rewards narrow, well-tested assistants over one large chatbot. Each assistant does one job, in one channel, with a clear point where a person takes over.
Where to start
- Pick one repetitive job that eats an hour a day, such as answering the same five questions or booking viewings.
- Write down what a good answer looks like, and when the assistant must hand over to a person.
- Run it on real messages for two weeks, read every conversation, then widen it.
