Keyword research before the first line of copy
Before I rewrote a single title today, I checked what people actually type into Google for each site. Several titles changed because of it.
The numbers
Estimated monthly searches and keyword difficulty (0 to 100) on 8 October 2026, for the country each site serves:
| Search | Country | Searches a month | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| web design malta | Malta | 390 | 41 |
| apartments for rent malta | Malta | 2,400 | 1 |
| ai malta | Malta | 170 | 2 |
| n8n alternative | US | 1,000 | 0 |
| ai automation agency | US | 4,400 | 19 |
| ai receptionist | US | 49,500 | 25 |
| saas for sale | US | 210 | 4 |
What changed
- Craftura's home page title now starts with "Web Design Malta". People search for the service and the place, not the agency name.
- The deskio.org enquiry page became "Flats and Apartments for Rent in Malta". The old title described a form. The new one matches 2,400 searches a month with almost no competition.
- Launchedly's title leads with "SaaS for Sale", the words a buyer types.
- This site got a note on AI in Malta, a search with real demand and little competition.
What the numbers did not change
Template pages like "bakery website template" show almost no searches in Malta. Those pages still exist because they help someone who already found Craftura choose a design. Not every page has to rank.
Three rules I keep
- A search volume is not a visit count. Even first place gets only part of the clicks.
- Match the page to the intent. "Apartments for rent malta" wants listings or a way to ask for them, not an essay.
- Never write a claim to fit a keyword. If the page cannot answer the search honestly, leave the keyword out.
